Tai Rayment

Topic1:

To find courses that apply to my degree, I have narrowed me search to classes that apply to early learning. Some of the key words I have used have been “child development”, and “early learning.”Some of the courses I found were, CE100 Preparing for a career in early childhood development, and CE215 Early childhood curriculum.

Topic 2  CE215:  EARLY CHILDHOOD CURRICULUM PLANNING INSTITUTION: 042 Purdue Global, Online CREDITS: 5.00 Quarter Hours DESCRIPTION: In this course, students will study teaching methods for educational settings that serve young children. Attention will be given to developmental domains, strategies for planning, organizing the learning environment, facilitating teacher-child interactions, guiding children’s behavior, conducting lessons, assessing, care giving, supporting play, and addressing standards through integrated and emergent curriculum. COURSE OUTCOME:  *Identify the domains of development to be considered in curriculum planning. *Explain the importance of the learning environment and planning and how they influence behavior and learning. *Apply knowledge of curriculum practices for young children.

The course description is related to the outcome because they both strategies to planning and curriculum.Within the course description it talks about the learning environment and child development which encompasses the outcomes. The examples I have of my learning autobiography that relate to this course, is my experience lesson planning as a preschool teacher within the state standards, the ECEAP standards, and the standards of Early Achievers. I will go back and add more individualized experiences as a teacher that relates to all the lesson planning experience and curriculum I have been using.

Topic 1: The Course Explorer

During my research of my degree plan I was able to find three courses that I would be able to use in my portfolio. Prior to enrolling in this class I had already been aware of the courses I was going to petition. Since, I transferred in several credits, this limited me to courses that I can apply in EL206. When, I was using the course explorer to search key terms I used the course description names and the course ID. I found it to be much faster by just typing in the course ID. However, when I went back to see what I would find by entering key words I used: stress, theory, and abnormal. All of those words are in the title of the courses I am petitioning. After, reviewing a few other classmates discussions, it seemed that our strategies were similar.

Topic 2: Course Description and Outcomes in Course Explorer

This is one of the courses I am petitioning for.

PS440 Abnormal Psychology

DESCRIPTION:

This course presents an integrative and multidimensional perspective to the fascinating field of abnormal psychology. Students will acquire basic knowledge of various psychological disorders, including depression, anxiety, and psychotic and mood disorders. Students will be introduced to how abnormal behavior is defined, assessed, and diagnosed using the current classification system, as well as the limitations of assessment. The course will provide an overview of the various models used to understand psychological disorders and the therapeutic approaches used to treat them. Additionally, students will be given an overview of the legal, economic, and sociocultural influences on abnormal behavior and the mental health system in order to gain a greater understanding of how mental illness affects all in our society.

COURSE OUTCOME:

PS440-1: Compare the historical, cultural, and current perspectives of normal and abnormal behavior. PS440-2: Analyze the psychological, biological, and sociocultural influences on abnormal behavior. PS440-3: Evaluate the legal and ethical issues associated with abnormal behavior. PS440-4: Develop a comprehensive case study of a psychological disorder.

The course description states what the course is about and the information that will be learned. The course outcome portrays exactly what will be learned and how it can be applied through comparing, analyzing, evaluating, and developing. I feel that my experiential learning will support this class because of my five plus years of experience as a behavioral health technician working in drug and alcohol treatment facilities that are dual diagnosis. I have taken several training seminars in mental health disorders, legal and ethical issues within the dual diagnosis field. On a daily basis I work with several clients who not only suffer from addiction but have severe mental health problems. I have additional training’s that fall under mental health that can be added to my expanded resume and learning autobiography.

Implementation Plan for a New Economic Opportunity

  Professional Context

As a Master’s level health care practitioner you may be expected to  create budget and implementation plans to ensure that economic  opportunities for the organization are rolled out successfully and can  be sustained over multiple years. Additionally, it is important to be  able to envision how an economic initiative could be used for different  contexts and purposes to keep the investment a viable and positive asset  to your organization or care setting. Scenario

The senior management members have sent you their thanks and notes  on your feasibility study for your proposed economic initiative. They  have determined that your proposal has the potential to benefit the  organization in both the short and long term. The last step in this  process is to complete a thorough implementation plan for your proposed  initiative. This plan will need to include a budget of relevant expected  material, staffing, and capital costs over the first five years of the  initiative (see the Resources for some examples and guides about budget  planning), as well as projected earnings from the initiative for the  care setting. You must also include a plan and timeline for rolling the  initiative out, an analysis of how it may impact other aspects of the  care setting, an explanation how it can remain viable in the face of  environmental changes, and sufficient relevant supporting evidence. Instructions

In your 7-8 page plan, you have been asked to be sure to address the following. Note:  The bullet points below correspond to grading criteria in the scoring  guide. Be sure your work is, at minimum, addressing each of the bullets  below. You may also want to read the scoring guide and the Guiding  Questions: Implementation Plan for a New Economic Opportunity document  to better understand the performance levels that relate to each grading  criterion: Create a budget for relevant expected costs and earnings or  benefits over the first five years of your proposed economic initiative. Propose a plan to roll out your economic initiative that will  enable your care setting to successfully implement it in an ethical and  culturally equitable way that will ensure achievement of quality or  service improvements. Analyze how your proposed initiative, once implemented, may  impact other aspects of your care setting and ways in which negative  impacts could be mitigated. Explain strategies you have integrated into your proposed  economic initiative that will ensure it can remain a viable asset to  your care setting in the face of dynamic environmental forces. Justify the relevance and value of the quantitative and  qualitative economic, financial, and scholarly evidence you used to  support your recommendations throughout your plan. Communicate your business and implementation plan in a logically  structured and concise manner, writing content clearly with correct use  of grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Effectively support your plan and recommendations with relevant  economic data and scholarly sources, correctly formatting citations and  references using current APA style.

Example assignment: You may use the assignment example,  linked in the Resources, to give you an idea of what a Proficient or  higher rating on the scoring guide would look like. Requirements Length of paper: 7-8 double-spaced, typed pages (not including title page and reference list). Your paper should be succinct yet substantive.       Be sure to include a separate title page and reference list. Your completed budget plan should be included as an appendix within your final submission. APA formatting: Resources and citations are formatted according to current APA style. Resources: Cite a minimum of 3–5 authoritative  and scholarly resources. Be sure to include specific economic data and  support as part of your cited resources. **I HAVE ATTACHED THE BUDGET PREPARATION WORKSHEET, WHICH ALSO NEEDS TO BE COMPLETED**

Discussion: Designing Quantitative Research Researchers consider validity and reliability with each new study they design. This is because validity and reliability are not fixed but rather reflect a particular study’s unique variables, research design, instruments, and participants.

In the context of research design, two types of validity, which speak to the quality of different features of the research process, are considered: internal validity and external validity. Assuming that the findings of a research study are internally valid—i.e., the researcher has used controls to determine that the outcome is indeed due to manipulation of the independent variable or the treatment—external validity refers to the extent to which the findings can be generalized from the sample to the population or to other settings and groups. Reliability refers to the replicability of the findings.

For this Discussion, you will consider threats to internal and external validity in quantitative research and the strategies used to mitigate these threats. You will also consider the ethical implications of designing quantitative research.

With these thoughts in mind: By Day 4

Post an explanation of a threat to internal validity and a threat to external validity in quantitative research. Next, explain a strategy to mitigate each of these threats. Then, identify a potential ethical issue in quantitative research and explain how it might influence design decisions. Finally, explain what it means for a research topic to be amenable to scientific study using a quantitative approach.

Be sure to support your Main Issue Post and Response Post with reference to the week’s Learning Resources and other scholarly evidence in APA Style.

blind essay

BLINDNESS ESSAY (15%) —  due March 25
What I would like you to do for this essay should be relatively straightforward, and should not require you to do additional reading or online/library research….  although you may have to google a few things about your hometown.  This is a reflective essay.  This means that you should use the existing materials from the course module and reflect on them. (If it helps, think of it as more of a ‘journal entry’ than a ‘research paper’.)

Part of being a good anthropologist is learning to see critically. For this assignment, students are required to use narrative to “describe culture” for those who do not have access to visual materials, who cannot see, or for whom the “obvious” lessons of a given image is not so obvious… you can not assume a “picture is worth 1000 words.”  After reading the module materials and listening to the podcast, please write a brief (~3 page) essay about them.

Your essay should contain the following sections:
A. SELF-REFLECTION ON VISUAL CULTURE
After having watched the clips on AD, what did you learn by watching the videos with description?  Did you gain any insights into what is important, culturally, to describe?  (Please explain.)  Did watching with description help you to “see” better?  How so?  Importantly, what additional benefits are there from audio description for sighted viewers?
B.  YOUR COMMUNITY & YOUR CAMPUS
Re Community… Where is the closest movie theater (or other place) near where you live that offers AD?  How far is this from your home?  How many sites offer AD within 20 miles of your home?  Would you have a choice of movies (or other cultural programming) to see, if you wanted to watch a film with description?
Re Campus…   Is AD available on campus (other than in my class)?  Where on campus have you been exposed to AD?  Why do you think it is that way? If you have not been exposed to AD on campus, where are the three most critical places that you think should begin offering AD (or using image descriptions) where it does not currently exist?  What specific 2 suggestions would you make to help increase the amount of AD on campus?  Do you have any suggestions for increasing knowledge about and presence of AD in the culture at large?  What is the concept of “universal design” and could that help make AD more common?
C.  THE SOCIAL MODEL & SOCIAL CONSTRUCTION OF BLINDNESS
In this section, please refer to the “Becoming Batman” (Invisibilia podcast) and “The Making of Blind Men” excerpts to address “expectations and access” vis a vis blindness.  Did these materials convince you that the disability of blindness is located in the social fabric and not in one’s body or its functioning?  If so, how so?  If not, why not?  What specific parts of these works were most poignant in demonstrating the social model, and that blindness is a social construction?
D.  GENDER & DISABILITY
Is the “lived experience” of being blind different based on your gender?  Are blind women constructed the same as blind men?  Please refer to the article, “A Blind Man’s Harley”, in this section.  What struck you as odd or important from this work?  Did it change what you knew about “learning to be blind” or “learning to be female,” or how those two things intersect?
E.  SELF-REFLECTION ABOUT BLINDNESS
Please reflect here on what you’ve learned generally about blindness and our cultural assumptions. For example, you could discuss how your ideas have changed over time and what influenced that change. You could discuss how assumptions and expectations define the nature of the “blind experience” and/or how that can change through new attitudes,  experiences, or accommodations. Please provide at least one personal example of an incident where you culturally encountered “blindness” (social interaction, tv show, etc).  Do you think about this differently now, after exposure to these materials, how so?

Students should write a minimum of three pages about the above themes.  Essays should be double-spaced; max 12-point font and max 1-inch margins. There is no additional rubric but stronger essays will demonstrate competency of the three assigned materials noted above (i.e., do you show you read/listened to them AND thought deeply about them?)  Essays will be graded by the professor.
