You will compare the two sources based on three topics:
How does each author challenge the status quo; what injustice are they addressing?
How does each author deploy religion as a source of critique and change?
What similarities or differences are there in the methods used by King and Chavez to effect change?
Finally which essay was more effective in creating change?
Letter from a Birmingham Jail by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Mexican-American and the Church by Cesar Chavez

Length: 5 full paragraphs minimum
Introduction (ending with a clear thesis statement)
Conclusion (summation of argument with a restated thesis)
What to do:
Review the “Paper Grading Rubric” PDF so you know exactly what criteria I will use to grade your paper. Write the paper. The thesis should be stated in the first paragraph, and the rest of the paper should address your thesis.
Note: A thesis statement means nothing if the paper is not completely focused on the main argument. Keep your focus.
Present three pieces of research (or evidence) to back up your thesis. Each evidence paragraph (paragraphs 2-4) should list a minimum of 3 specifics or details.
