Yes, politics play an essential role in the operations of the local police department because community policing is a shared responsibility between the federal government and the local government. Hence, politics play a significant role in both the state patrol and the state police department.

The problems attached to the police recruitment process in the various department is well documented. They include firstly, lack of physical fitness that is caused by the increasing rate of sedentary lifestyle among the young generation, hence, increased the occurrence of obesity among other health factors. Secondly, it is the credit issues that affect hire-ability of the available candidates. Thirdly, it is the disqualifying behaviors that act as an obstacle that bar young people from qualifying. Fourthly, it is the relatively low pay that makes the police profession less attractive to job seekers.
