o Create your own religion that relates to new global changes and conditions. “Money-ism,” for instance, might focus on the worship of the dollar. Alternatively, you may show how an existing religion adapts to cultural encounters and new ideas – e.g., “cyber-Judaism.” Your religion must contain these elements: a.) symbols and beliefs; b.) a concept of a god and sacred founders; c.) rituals and worship; d.) organization(s); and e.) a community. This creation project will be done in a team of 4 or 5 students per team. The team will present their religion in the last class sessions of the quarter (see SCHEDULE).
o Write a paper individually that focuses on one aspect of the religion the team creates (see a through e, above). The paper will be 5 pages (double-spaced, 12 point font, written by the individual student), plus a 1 page introduction to the whole religion (which will be written by the team). DUE JUNE 7.
