The Institute of Medicine report of 1999 cites two major studies that establish medical errors as one of the leading causes of death and disability in the United States. Should the federal government take the necessary steps to monitor the status of this high-risk situation, as it does with other epidemics, or should the government continue to trust the providers of health care to deal forthrightly with the problem?

Analyze why legislative attempts to address only one of the trio of rising costs, lack of universal access, or variable quality of health care only worsens the remaining two.

Assignment Summary

There are two parts to this assignment. In Part 1 you will research and write about the impact Big Data analytics has had on a specific industry. In Part 2, you will present your findings in a presentation to classmates. If this is an online course, you will record yourself making the presentation and post it to the Industry Analysis discussion board.

Begin by selecting one of the industries discussed in this course (i.e., medical, energy, insurance, criminal justice, transportation, etc.) or an industry have an interest in. You are to research the scale, effects, impacts, and disruptions that Big Data analytics have had on the industry.

Part 1

Write a paper that demonstrates an understanding of the concepts presented in this course by discussing how a specific industry has been effected by big data analytics and the role you are interested in playing within the industry. 

Begin by presenting your findings about this industry and answer the following questions:

· How has data analytics evolved specifically in the industry?

· Are there any ways in which big data has disrupted the industry?

· How do you see analytics changing the industry in the future?

Then provide insights into data analytics within the industry by answering the following questions:

I believe that there were several significant lessons learned from Vietnam. It’s my opinion that the most significant is that not every citizen is going to buy into the ideology or forenign policy of their government.  Unike the support the American soldiers recieved during WWII, the Vietnam soldiers were considered by some as criminals invading a foreign land.  During the Vietnam conflict, many of the younger generation launched protests against our involvment.  It was large divide among the citizens of the United States.  I believe it is at this point that a new culture of political division started.  People started solidifying their beliefs in how the government should work for it’s people and towards other nations.

Virtual teams are composed of employees who are physically dispersed throughout the nation or around the world. They are linked by various forms of electronic technology. Face-to-face contact is usually minimal or nonexistent. Virtual teams face several challenges: time zone differences, which make quick information exchanges difficult, and cultural miscues, which can cause misunderstandings. When teams don’t meet in person, its less likely they will develop the kind of chemistry common to productive teams that have face-to-face meetings. Many virtual teams are in continuous danger of becoming dysfunctional.

Recent research has identified certain traits and practices common to most virtual teams. Here are a few important rules for making these teams productive. Choose a few team members who already know each other. This will speed up the process of building networks among team members. Invest in online resources that help all team members quickly learn about one another. Ensure the task is meaningful to team members and the company. Assign tasks that are challenging and interesting. The virtual team should include “boundary spanners,” persons who have many connections to useful people outside of the team. Develop a team mission statement along with teamwork expectations, project goals, and deadlines. Create an online site where team members can collaborate, exchange ideas, and motivate one another. The team should have a shared online work space that all members can access 24 hours a day. Encourage frequent communication and try to reach agreement about preferred communication tools. If you are a virtual team leader, find ways to mark team progress toward goals.

I think the main reason marketing professionals are involved in supply chain decisions is to ensure the product they are spending their time and money advertising for is the product they believe it to be.  Wasting human and financial capital on a product that won’t meet the expectations being laid out in an advertising campaign doesn’t make much sense.  I think the larger companies are at a distinct advantage here vs the smaller business.  They have the capacity to have much more control over their supply chain and the decisions those suppliers make.  The largest companies can go so far as to purchase their own supplies in their chain.  Although smaller businesses might be more in touch with the overall quality of the product, the effect the bigger businesses can have on the overall supply chain process negates that advantage.
